How often should you get a haircut?

A man getting his hair cut by a barber

There is no single right answer: it depends on your style and how sharp you like it to look. As a rough guide:

  • Skin fades and very short cuts: every 2 to 3 weeks. Short hair shows growth fastest.
  • Short back and sides: every 3 to 4 weeks.
  • Medium-length styles: every 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Longer hair: a trim every 6 to 10 weeks keeps the ends healthy.
  • Beards: a tidy-up every 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the shape.

Hair grows at different speeds for different people, so your barber is the best person to ask.
